Extending and Modernizing Two Existing Flats in a Two-Storey Dwelling: Expanding Living Spaces and Enhancing Comfort
This two-storey dwelling, previously divided into two self-contained flats, presented the challenge of adding extra bedrooms and significantly improving the living spaces in both the ground and first-floor flats.
For the first-floor flat, the proposal included seeking planning permission for an L-shaped rear dormer and loft extension, adding a third bedroom. This expansion also features two balconies, providing rare and highly desirable views over London. The design maximizes available space while adhering to town planning restrictions, creating a contemporary living environment with high-quality insulation for improved energy efficiency and comfort.
The ground-floor flat proposal involved obtaining planning permission for a side infill extension and a rear single-storey extension. This will add a third bedroom and significantly enhance the living spaces, establishing a stronger relationship with the garden. As with the first floor, the ground-floor design focuses on maximizing space and maintaining sustainability through superior insulation, ensuring a comfortable and energy-efficient home.
Both proposals are designed with a thoughtful approach to space, combining modern aesthetics with practical improvements. The result will be stylish, sustainable flats that offer increased comfort, functionality, and a strong connection to the surrounding environment. With careful attention to planning regulations and design details, this project is set to deliver a high-standard living solution.
